So now I am almost back to normal and have to start growing my business again. This means getting out there and doing the one thing that I don't like, approaching people about joining me in Avon.
I love Avon and I talk about it with my friends very passionately all the time, but I am not one to get all up in a stranger's face. So I'd really like to know how other direct sellers handle this part of their business. Please share your tips with us all!

So how do you accidentally become an Avon Lady?
It all started exactly 5 years ago, when I was travelling in India. I had my palm read in Jaipur and was told that I would soon have a baby and a successful business. Hmmm, sure. I was very single at the time and had no plans for a business, having been happily working for the same company for 8 years and enjoying my travel. A couple of nights later, I started to receive calls from an Australian number I didn't know, so I didn't answer them (roaming fees!) but I sent a text to my dad and asked him to tell them to call me when I arrived home.
3 months after returning home, I had an appointment with the timeshare company who had been calling me in India and a few days after this, I had my first date with the representative I had spoken to. We were expecting our gorgeous girl 7 months after that and 18 months later we were married!
Cut to just over a year later and I am now making and selling my own jewellery (more on that another time) while working part time and spending time with Lucy, who is growing up too fast. On a trip to the shops, as she's dragging me to a ride, I am approached by Lynda, the Avon District Manager for my suburb. She can see I'm a bit harassed, so just makes an appointment to come and see me at home, where Lucy can play safely and we can chat. I'm so harassed I just say yes, figuring I can cancel later.
Only I didn't remember to cancel, so the next thing you know, I'm filling out the paperwork thinking there's nothing to lose, it hasn't cost me anything, I can just show a brochure to a couple of friends and take one to work, everyone will have a good laugh at me for becoming an 'Avon Lady'. So I showed my brochures and guess what? Nobody laughed. Instead they said, 'oh great, I've been looking for someone who sells Avon, I used to buy it all the time but my Avon Lady disappeared'. The orders started rolling in. I became a Leadership Representative and started signing up new 'Avon Ladies' (I do have one man too!).
So now, as the palm reader predicted, I had one baby and one business! (Plus a spare business and a husband).
Everything was going so well, but towards the end of last year I was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm. It had to be operated on before it burst. So I sit here now with a huge scar running down my scalp, unable to drive for another week (3 months in total), on leave from work, without pay.....but my Avon business has been good to me over Christmas, so no money worries. And my new best friend, my District Manager Lynda, has been taking me out for lunches and coffees, so I don't go stir crazy, she's even helped me do my deliveries.
Honestly, if you've ever wondered if Avon is for you, no matter what your circumstances, you can do it. I will help you, I will be upfront and honest, just ask.
